Dedicated to those bits and pieces of the truth glimpsed in
unexpected places, such as fiction, movies, television, SciFi, fantasy, etcetera.
Since the scriptures of all belief systems are expected places, they are
not included here. Click here to see other
Bits and Pieces of the Infinite Truth.
Please note that although I firmly believe what I believe, I still must remind
you that the information on this page is OPINION. I don't believe that any
religion has 100% of the truth, but I do believe that every religion and
every spiritual point of view has PART of the infinite truth. I do firmly
believe that God has hidden his truths in many places other than the scriptures
and we should be open to recognizing his truth where we find it. Please bear
in mind that what is truth for me will not necessarily be truth for you.
That is all part of God's plan, whatever we call Him/Her.
God walks the Earth in many guises
(a bit of inspiration from Heinlein)
I believe that the Infinite Spirit does walk the Earth in many forms, and
I do believe that, in many, if not most or all, of those cases, that Spirit
walks the Earth without knowing that He or She is part of the Infinite Spirit
that some of us call God, Allah, Jehovah, Adonai, or Brahma. For convenience,
I will call him God.
How can God understand what it is like to be human if He/She has not experienced
being human? And how can he understand being human if he remembers His Divinity?
For these reasons, I do believe that some of the people that I have seen
walking the Earth just might be God walking the Earth, experiencing life
as one of us.
In "The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag", a novelette included
in the book 6xH by Robert A. Heinlein (later reprinted by
Berkley
Publishing Group and by
Ace
Books as a collection titled
The
Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag), the title character tries to
explain the judging of the creation of the Earth allegorically: About a race,
a group of beings, one of whom created the Earth as a project, Heinlein wrote:
"... they were creative. The creating and enjoying of works of art was their
occupation and their reason for being. ...
"Think of one of this race, in your terms--young. He creates a work of art,
under the eye and the guidance of his teacher. He has talent, this one, and
his creation has many curious and amusing features. The teacher encourages
him to go on with it and prepare it for the judging. ...
"The Artist created this world, after His Own fashion and using postulates
which seemed well to Him. His teacher approved on the whole, but---"
A few paragraphs later, we start to see information about the judging of
that creation.
"Until today you have seen me only in your apartment, or mine. ...
"The teacher ... suggested certain improvements in the creation. But the
Artist was hasty or careless; ...
"... which might not have mattered if the work had not been selected for
judging. ... There was some doubt in (the critics) minds as to whether or
not the creation was worth preserving. That is why I am here. ...
"I am an art critic.
"... You must know that to judge a creation such as this, your world, is
not like walking up to a painting and looking at it. This world is peopled
with men; it must be looked at through the eyes of men. I am a man.
...
"I am a man. Scattered around through the human race are the Critics--men.
Each is the projection of a Critic, but each is a man--in every way a man,
not knowing that he is also a Critic. ...
"Jonathan Hoag came into being as a man, for the purpose of examining,
savoring, certain of the artistic aspects of this world. ... But it
so happened that I observed something else of artistic worth while in contact
with you. ...
"Good art, good art--both of you. I have found several sorts of good and
original art in this world, enough to justify encouraging your Artist to
try again. But there was so much that was bad, poorly drawn and amateurish,
that I could not find it in me to approve the work as a whole until I encountered
and savored this, the tragedy of human love.
and about the soul remembering what the brain does not remember?
"... Truthfully, I do not recall it, even today, although my full
persona knows of it."
I do enjoy Heinlein's work. He has written many excellent books. I especially
enjoy his Future History series. |
